Leonidas returns to the Lucerne Festival on 2 September, performing at the KKL Luzern with Valery Gergiev and the Munich Philharmonic. Leonidas is the featured soloist for Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No.1, one of the most challenging in the repertoire. It was completed in 1948, but following the composer’s denunciation by the Soviet authorities it was only first performed in 1955 by its dedicatee, David Oistrakh.

Following the performance at the Lucerne Festival, Leonidas reunites with Yo-Yo Ma and Emanuel Ax in Frankfurt for the start of a European tour on 4 September. Performing Brahms’ three Piano Trios, which they recorded together for Sony to great acclaim, the trio also visits the Wiener Musikverein on 6 September, Philharmonie de Paris on 7 September and London’s Barbican Centre on 9 September.
